The Palio of Ostia Antica – Autumn Equinox 2019

Ladies and Lords are ready for the usual festival at the Borgo where the Palio of Ostia Antica, dedicated to the Autumn Equinox, is celebrated.

Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of September, the 2 Renaissance days in which, between history and imagination,  scientific rigor and freedom of entertainment, the festival is meant to enhance the cultural heritage with particular attention to the traditions of the period of Pope Julius II.

Saturday 21st September program:

– MORNING:

• exhibition village in Piazza Umberto I, Piazza Gregoriopoli and Parco dei Ravennati
• Guided tours, between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm
• Parades in Reinassance costumes, between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm

– AFTERNOON:

• Historical market, archery, demonstrations of craft practices and educational workshops at Parco dei Ravennati
• demonstration duels by the Compagnia d’armi, between 04:00 pm and 07:00 pm
• Chess competition, from 04:00 pm to 07:00 pm
• Holy Mass in Sant’Aurea’s church in the Borgo, at 07:00 pm
• Music show at the Riario hall, free admittance, at 09:00 pm

Sunday 22st September program:

– MORNING:

• exhibition village in Piazza Umberto I, Piazza Gregoriopoli and Parco dei Ravennati
• Guided tours, between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm
• Parades in Reinassance costumes, between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm
• musical entertainment in costumes by the musicians of the Flautiamo association, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
• Ceremony of pairing between knight / horse and their district (contrada), Parco dei Ravennati, at 11:00 am

– AFTERNOON:

• Historical market, archery, demonstrations of craft practices and educational workshops at Parco dei Ravennati
• Historical parade: gathering of the participants at the Borgo, at 03:30 pm
• Historical parade: Pope Giulio II settles to assist to the parade, Piazza Umberto I at 03:45 pm
• Historical parade: beginning of the parade, flag bearers and drummers parade through the streets of Ostia Antica, from 04:00 pm
• Knights tournament and dispute among the districts, park at via Evans, at 05:30 pm
• Knights tournament: award ceremony and delivery of the Palio, park at via Evans, at 06:45 pm
• The Lottery of the Palio, by the Centro Lo Scariolante, at 07:30 pm
