The foundation stone of the church was laid on June 13th 1968 in the presence of Pope Paolo VI. The building was inaugurated on December 7th 1972 and consacrated on December 22nd 1973.
The complex, that was designed by Ernesto Vichi, is very large; together with the church it contains offices, lodgings for the clergy and spaces for the parish activities and for sport and recreation.
The church emerges from a portico that serves as an element that unifies the complex.
Its main elevation is also an important urban sign: it dialogues with the surroundings and also acts as a scenic backdrop for the perpendicular road to it.
